I'M ALMOST 30 AND IT'S AWESOME (CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF)
I'm a little wiser and maybe less funny?
I JUST TURNED 29! (two weeks ago, but I was busy vacationing on the east coast)
Let me tell you… it’s pretty awesome.
Being as close as possible to 30 is actually great once you become a follower of Jesus, because every new step is a step into the Father’s arms, and so every day that goes by I learn more about God’s grace and my ability to repent and receive.
So anyone who’s out there feeling pressure about turning 30 and all of the societal expectations/ baggage that comes with it, let me tell you something:
LET GO
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30
A dear friend of mine introduced me to a camp concept/ ice breaker called, “Rose, Bud Thorn”…
Rose: Highlight
Thorn: Lowlight
Bud: Looking forward to…
My Rose:
Health and wealth… (or very small amounts of it).
I got a job working for my old school district as a substitute teacher and it was a blessing in disguise. For me, a perceived reneging on my unrelenting will to make a living as an artist led me to a job teaching poetry and music for a non-profit - which turned out to be a scam (they offered me full-time but only had funding for 10 hrs per week) - which turned out to be a powerful lesson in business execution and management which led to me re-entering “the system”, as one of my supervisors at the non-profit called it.
Turns out the system ain’t that bad… or at least it pays okay and is tolerable. Working as a substitute teacher has given me the freedom, flexibility, and finances to pursue a business in the arts again, which if you’re subscribed to this newsetter, have first access to the fruits of!
Also I’m not a real teacher and so maybe that’s why I’m not suffering the system. Oh well!
My Thorn:
Unfortunately in the process of budding, sometimes flowers fall away, and a romantic relationship ended despite it’s hanging on for quite sometime. I don’t want to get too much into the specifics of things for sake of personal respect and privacy to the lovely woman whom I root for with all my heart, but suffice it to say… GOD IS WORKING IN MY LIFE AND STRENGTHENING MY FAITH DESPITE MY CONTINUAL HEARTBREAK.
Our hearts are what God wants the most and sometimes he breaks them to make them anew, only to realize that Jesus will never fail.
Bud:
It’s ridiculously exciting to see what has come of fully surrendering to God’s will for my life and despite the challenges and failures along the way, I’ve learned most importantly:
“This life is about worship and yet warfare comes when worship is threatened."
LET ME TELL YOU… BOY HAVE I BATTLED IN MY LIFE.
But, but, but
This year I have learned to stop focusing on the spiritual warfare and to focus on the worship.
Thank you God for saving my life and starting it over. I can’t wait to become a 30 year old “loser” who still lives with his parents, because at the end of the day, I’m still a child who shall dwell in the house of the Lord forevermore.
BY THE WAY I PUT OUT MY FIRST HALF HOUR SET AND YOU CAN WATCH IT NOW… IT’S ABOUT FACING FEARS AND I HOPE YOU CAN TOO.
